Jarinko Chie was a long-running manga written by Haruki Etsumi, published from 1978 to 1997. It follows the adventures and misfortunes of Chie Takemoto, self-declared "most unfortunate girl in Japan", as she deals with her daily problems in school and helping at her father's restaurant.
The series was adapted into anime twice, first as a theatrical first directed by Isao Takahata, and later as a 64-episode animated series also directed by Takahata.
Jarinko Chie contains examples of:
- Animals Lack Attributes: Zigzagged, the animals have testicles (but nothing else) are shown.
- Clean Dub Name: The movie version had the title character being renamed KiƩ la petite peste in the French dub because "chie" would sound like "chier" (to shit) in French.
