Recap / Yu Gi Oh VRAINS Ep 97 Ignis Unification Plan

Go To

Revolver talks about a simulation that predicts how Lightning's actions will result in the destruction of both the Ignis and humanity in the future. Revolver has also gained the upper hand in the Duel and summoned a new Borreload monster. However, Lightning then uses an underhanded tactic.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Lightning scoffs when Revolver brings out "Borreload eXcharge Dragon", claiming it doesn't have what it takes to take down Lightning himself.
  • Dirty Coward: Just before Revolver can finish off Lightning, the latter dissuades his opponent from landing the finishing blow by freeing Jin's consciousness and holding him hostage; should Lightning be defeated, Jin's consciousness will be erased.
  • Ironic Echo: Revolver points out that he had an additional workaround to disposing of "Judgment Arrows", and uses "Mind Crush" to force his opponent to discard the Link Spell. Shortly afterwards, however, Lightning himself mentions that he, too, had a workaround prepared in the event his opponent attempts to do whatever it takes to prevent him from activating "Judgment Arrows"; he retrieves it using "Segmentata's" effect and wastes no time activating the Link Spell.
  • Mythology Gag: Revolver metaphorically invokes a Mind Crush on his opponent and forces him to discard "Judgment Arrows". While Lightning is smothered by purple smog and his head crackles slightly, the worst it does is set him off, and he wastes no time making an all-out counterattack (part of which involves recovering "Judgment Arrows" from the GY).
  • Rage Breaking Point: Lightning loses his composure after he is forced to discard "Judgment Arrows" thanks to "Mind Crush". He quickly gets out of it, however, once he uses "Segmentata's" effect to return said Link Spell to his hand (and subsequently activate it).
  • Reforged into a Minion: As it turns out, Windy only harboured animosity towards humanity in the first place because Lightning rewrote his program and turned him into his right-hand man.
  • Sadistic Choice: Lightning once again invokes one using Jin's consciousness data as a bargaining chip in an attempt to dissuade his opponent from landing the finishing blow. Now, a fazed Revolver has little choice but to either go through with the finishing blow anyway, or fold and allow Lightning to win.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: As the intro for the next episode points out, the old Revolver wouldn't have spared a thought in finishing off Lightning even if it meant destroying Jin's mind at the same time.
