Recap / Yu Gi Oh Arc V Ep 56 Synchro Sector

Go To

Mistaken for fugitives on their arrival in the Synchro Dimension, Yuya, Serena, Sawatari and Reira, are to be arrested by Security. Sawatari and Serena step up to duel the two, activating an Action Field. Sawatari is defeated, leaving Serena to duel by herself, and Yuya duels another officer to protect Reira, who is frightened without Reiji around. Yuya tries to use his Entertainment Dueling to win over the officers and gain their trust, but the sight confuses more than dazzles.

As Yuya and Serena continue to duel, Head of Security Jean-Michael recognizes the unknown threat and has more Security forces close in. The four are saved, however, by an unexpected arrival — Crow Hogan and a gang of D-Wheelers, who whisk them away from the scene.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: Confronted with three Hippo Tokens to destroy before it can get to Yuya's Discover Hippo, the Security officer keeps using his monster's effect to discard cards to destroy monsters, giving up his entire hand in the process.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Crow and several other D-Wheelers intervene to save Yuya and company from Security.
  • Deconstruction: Yuya's attempts to use Entertainment Dueling to win over the Security forces like his father did with his mother's enemies doesn't quite work out the same; the officers are confused, but remain professional. Furthermore, even though they're innocent and are trying to reason with them, they're still resisting arrest and (via dueling) attacking their arresting officers, which doesn't help their case at all.
  • Evil Genius: Roger continues to demonstrate his intelligence; when Sawatari explains what Action Cards are to the confused officers, Roger goes with it and orders Security to try such cards themselves. Later, after watching Serena Fusion Summon and Yuya Pendulum Summon, he quickly puts two and two together and realizes they clearly are not the fugitives (Yugo and Yuzu) from the previous night.
  • Mooks: Naturally, the Security agents. Serena notes when her opponent summons the same monsters another officer used against Yuya, that their decks seem to be mass produced and copied among them. What's more, they attack in numbers.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Sawatari taunts Security for not knowing what Action Cards are, explaining it to them in the process. Naturally, now that they do know what those cards do, they begin using them.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Being this world's equivalent of police officers, Security's officers approach dueling simply and straightforward.
    "We don't play games."
    • Furthermore, the only reason they duel is to buy time for back-up to arrive. Selena defeats her opponent, but they just re-engage with more officers.
  • Values Dissonance: Invoked In-universe. Yuya treats the duel like any normal Entertainment Duel, but Security treats it cold and professional like their usual style. The clash between Yuya's colorful Entermate monsters and Security's weapon-themed Vigilante monsters is quite jarring.
  • The Worf Effect: The episode opens with Sawatari being dealt a One-Hit KO with no information on how his opponent achieved it.
