Jamie, Dave and Mary are back in Slough, where they find Jamie's adoptive mum Paula living in their house. As Jamie throws away Hawkwind's ("Layla"'s) picture and desperately tries to resume his life as if nothing happened, Mary suddenly dies. The video of her death makes the rounds on the internet, and reaches his biological father, who promptly comes to Slough: none other than Father Jude. As Jude tries catching up with Jamie, the latter storms off. Feeling like he has nothing to lose, Jamie signs up for medical testing for an experimental drug which would allow people to live without the Sun after the comet strikes. Meanwhile, Sister Celine finds Hawkwind's picture and recognizes her from Poland. Paula, Dave, Jude and Celine set out to find Jamie before he undergoes the testing and tell him he has a daughter. After Jamie backs out of the testing and father and son reconcile, Jude and Celine leave.
Elsewhere in Slough, Mrs Sutton is shown the bunker by her doctor, Dr Samuel, with whom she seems to be involved. Molby and Larsson arrive with a crate, with a sedated Ariel inside, and she has his blood tested. As she explains her illness to Ariel, she also reveals why she is looking for him and the rest of the protagonists: they are all related to her, and she needs injections of their blood to survive. Ariel's blood turns out to be unclean (hepatitis), but before Sutton has him executed, he tells her he has a brother who has been abandoned as a baby, and he himself has a daughter. Excited by the prospect of getting her hands on the clean blood of her grand-grand-daughter, Mrs Sutton lets Ariel live.
In Washington DC, Rhonda finally manages to reach her house, but her neighbors call the police. As she hides from Tess, who had managed to track her down, in the school where she used to work, Rhonda reunites with Spike, then gets a lucky break when someone makes a fake 911 call, which makes Tess leave. This someone is Scotty, who had previously been torn between helping his sister and being able to work on Mount Genesis and Operation Saviour.
Arnold seems to be disgusted by the president wanting to turn Mount Genesis, as he puts it, "into his personal harem", but distracted by his sister's whereabouts, Scotty fails to defend him in front of their commander-in-chief. When Arnold discovers Scotty faked a 911 call with his own (traceable) cellphone and is hiding Rhonda in their house in Virginia, Arnold leaves Scotty, if only to keep his security clearance and be able to keep working on saving the world.
The You, Me and the Apocalypse episode "Home Sweet Home - 17 Days to Go" provides examples of:
- Everyone Is Related: Most of the protagonists turn out to be related in addition to the previously known siblings Jamie Winton and Ariel Conroy as well as Rhonda and Scotty McNeil:
- Jamie is Father Jude's illegitimate son, and by extension so is Ariel.
- The McNeil siblings are Jamie and Ariel's aunt and uncle, therefore Jude's siblings as well, with Sutton being their mother.
- The Reveal: In addition to the reveal that Everyone Is Related, the bunker seen in the intro is shown to belong to Mrs Sutton, the matriarch of the family.
