Rhonda and Leanne are on the run from US Marshall Tess Carter. While squatting at an abandoned guesthouse, they are discovered by the guesthouse's only resident, the owner's son Bobby, whom Rhonda befriends. Unbeknownst to them, Bobby had called the police as soon as he saw them, and with Leanne already in handcuffs and in Tess' car, Rhonda takes Bobby hostage. They manage to escape, and drop Tess in a park. Before they abandon her, Rhonda tells her she did all this not of her own choice, but Tess dismisses the notion.
Father Jude and Sister Celine investigate the next potential messiah, a man named Giovanni Cordi, who promised online he would accomplish a miracle at 5PM, but in reality wants to publicly kill himself by jumping from a tower. Jude tals him down, while a fellow priest, Father Christophe, takes all the credit. Meanwhile, Molby and Larsson track him down and manage to take a sample of his blood.
Jamie and Dave find the psychiatric hospital where Mary is held, hoping to find a bill with Ariel's address on it, which would lead Jamie to Layla. Despite insisting on not wanting to save his mother, he ends up warming up to her and saving her nonetheless.
Ariel and Max hold Spike hostage, until he manages to hack back into the NSA and give them "Face Chaser", a program that can find anyone in the world by tapping into cameras of all sorts. After Spike does his part of the deal, Ariel knocks him out. Spike then convinces the friendlier Max to check the information on the comet, since Ariel does not believe it is real, and Max does just that. This is news for Ariel, who immediately changes his course of action, and starts looking for a means to survive, finding out not only about Mount Genesis, but also about it being handled by Spike's uncle, Scotty. After Max gets too emotional, Ariel kills him.
The You, Me and the Apocalypse episode "What Happens to Idiots - 26 Days to Go" provides examples of:
- Foreshadowing: Two instances in the opening credits:
- Dave is revealed to be in the bunker, wearing formal but very dirty clothes, and with his right eye bandaged over.
- Jamie narrates that if they are the future of mankind, they're starting with a very shallow gene pool, more like a gene puddle. While it can be taken as self-deprecation, it's also a hint that most of the bunker's occupants are related.
- Start of Darkness: The events of the episode are one for Rhonda.
- Time Skip: This is the first episode that doesn't take the place the next day after the previous one. Six days have passed since the events of Still Stuff Worth Fighting For - 32 Days to Go.
