Recap / White Collar S02 E15 "Power Play"

Go To

A pair of corporate executives are manipulating NYC's power to cause rolling blackouts, pulling in insane amounts of money as the city broils. This isn't just inconvenient in the hottest part of the year; there's a death toll. As an added twist, Peter gets caught in traffic and Neal impersonates him to keep a skittish witness from bolting. Neal spends the episode pretending to be Elizabeth's husband and Peter has to learn how to be a thief. Hilarity Ensues.

As for Adler, the team are busy following the trail of would-be Nazi defector Gerhard Wagner. They turned him down and put him in detention at Ellis Island, whence he escaped and immigrated, changing his name. Thus Neal and Sara get to spend a lot of time in the Ellis Island archives, digging through the paperwork from 1946.

Tropes:

  • The "Be Careful!" Speech: The Trope Namer episode!
Neal: Hey, keep your eye on the prize, okay? This is serious. Stanzler doesn't mess around. And remember, backup is ten seconds away, so—
Peter: You don't give me the "be careful" speech. I invented the "be careful" speech.
  • Interrupted Intimacy: Mozzie walks in on Neal and Sara.
Mozzie: Um, the urgency transcends the awkwardness.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Sara's and Neal's UST gets ununresolved during a blackout.
  • The Reveal: Wagner changed his name to Michael Hunter and is now deceased with one surviving family member: Alex Hunter. Now we know how she knew about the music box.
  • When You Snatch the Pebble: Thoroughly referenced by Mozzie for Peter's thief training.
    Peter: Kung fu? Really?
Mozzie: You're going to be a very difficult student.
