"You take the good. You take the bad. You take them both, and there you have spiders crawling out of a red velvet cupcake. Welcome to Night Vale."
John Peters - you know, the farmer? - had a huge, healthy orange crop this year. But Carlos grows skeptical about a sudden orange grove in the desert. Plus, the City Council tries to get out of town, and an important correction to a previous story.
Tropes present in Orange Grove include:
- Always a Bigger Fish: The Secret Police show up towards the end to take away the body of John Peters (you know, the impostor?) and tell Cecil he saw nothing. Immediately after, StrexCorp-affiliated lawyers show up to take away the body of John Peters (you know, the impostor?) and tell the Secret Police they saw nothing.
- Fridge Logic: In-universe, Cecil wonders how Dana is still texting him, given that she hasn't been able to pay her cell phone bill or had access to a charger in over eight months.
- Law Enforcement, Inc.: StrexCorp is revealed to have one and they supercede Night Vale's Secret Police.
- Omnidisciplinary Scientist: Played with. Cecil asks Carlos about the orange grove, but Carlos responds saying that he is not a botanist or dendrologist, but a scientist because he studies science.
- Running Gag: The running comment clarifying John Peters - you know, the farmer? - is changed when Cecil discovers the truth about John Peters -you know, the imposter?- selling oranges.
