Charlie's newest girlfriend, Isabella, is a creepy Satan worshipper who seems to have supernatural powers. After drugging Charlie and having him participate in a ritual with her coven, she insists that he's now bound to serve the Devil with her.
Tropes
- Big Damn Heroes: Charlie has surrendered to Isabella, believing that she possesses supernatural powers and that he can't get out of the servitude he's sworn himself to while drugged. And then, Evelyn shows up, scaring Isabella off and immediately resolving the situation.
- Curse: If Charlie betrays the vow of servitude he made to Isabella's coven, he'll be struck with the ancient curse of betrayal. Effects include a withering of crops, death of cattle, and shriveling of manhood. It's only that third one that concerns Charlie, of course.
- Horrifying the Horror: Just when Charlie is about to give himself over to Isabella's satanic cause, Evelyn shows up in full wicked witch of the west attire. Isabella, who has spent the entire episode being calm, collected, and in complete control of every situation she finds herself in, is extremely rattled. Isabella apologizes and leaves, feigning ignorance when Charlie questions her. Evelyn claims they take a pilates class together, but the scene plays as if Evelyn is a witch of higher authority than Isabella, and that she was unhappy that her son was being dragged into another coven.
- Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Alan's extremely nasty sty and Charlie's worn, drained appearance are implied to be the result of some supernatural ability on the part of Isabella, and Charlie doesn't question that the curse of betrayal is real when trying to weigh his options. However, the sty could easily be a coincidence, Charlie may just be worn out from having an absurd amount of sex over the last few days, and when Isabella leaves at the end of the episode the curse never takes effect, so it's entirely possible that the witches' coven was just a collection of dedicated live action roleplayers.
