Recap / Two And A Half Men S 3 E 1 A Weekend In Bangkok With Two Olympic Gymnasts

Go To

Alan falls off the roof of Charlie's house after fixing the satellite dish and is severely injured. Charlie offers to take care of Jake for the weekend, drastically underestimating how difficult it can be to entertain an eleven year old boy.

Tropes:

  • Amusing Injuries: Alan's fall off the roof leaves him in a neck brace, two hand casts, and two finger splints for the remainder of the episode.
  • Artistic License: Jake wants to rent the new Final Fantasy game from Blockbuster. This episode initially aired on September 19th of 2005. The most recent Final Fantasy release as of that date was Final Fantasy X-2, in November of 2003. The woman in the Blockbuster hands Jake a copy of Final Fantasy X, which was released in December of 2001. And later in the episode when Jake is playing the game, the music that can be heard is from Final Fantasy II, a game that came out before Jake was born.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Jake is particularly hard to manage in this episode, speaking disrespectfully towards his mother, asking his severely injured father to do things with him, and driving Charlie up the wall with his demands.
  • Gilligan Cut: Charlie keeps insisting that he's not going to take Jake out to eat at Clucky's, as he doesn't even know where one is and he'd just have to randomly drive around until they find one. In the very next scene, the two of them are eating at Clucky's, with Charlie having driven all the way out to Watts to find one.
  • Running Gag: References to calling 'the guy' to come fix the satellite dish instead of Alan doing it himself, both before and after he falls off the roof.
