I can only teach what I believe!
Teacher Mr. Crawford

Science school books are being burned and other vandalism happens at a school where the majority of the students' families oppose to the students learning about evolution in the biology curriculum. The person who instigated it, is the biology teacher, who, after his son had a near-death experience, became very religious and opposed to the theory of evolution.

Hanson is called in to go undercover at this school to find the people responsible for the vandalism. While doing so, he starts to doubt his own faith in God, or lack thereof.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Book Burning: Strictly religious people who oppose to teaching about evolution, burn high school biology books that mention that. This is what sets in motion this episode's plot, and gets the Jump Street team called in.
  • Near-Death Experience: The son of the teacher who insists on teaching creationism, nearly died (he feels he died but then met God and God sent him back). That actually was what made the teacher become religious.
  • Self-Harm: Cameron burns the palm of his hand over a candle, after he has made out with a girl and thinks God will condemn him for that.
  • Shower of Angst: A pastor's son feels so ashamed of touching a girl that he goes into the river and frantically tries to "baptize" himself to wash away his sin.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: When ostensibly squeaky-clean church girl Cindy seduces pastor's son Cameron in between Bible study, with Cameron implied to have at least gotten to second base, an uplifting spiritual plays in the background.
