Recap / The Vision Of Escaflowne E 21 Reaction Of Fortune

Go To

  • Easily Forgiven: Dryden and Millernia forgive Hitomi for lying about the Tarot reading last episode. Millerna feels guilt at knowing she bullied Hitomi into doing something she didn't want to do. Dryden likewise correctly points out that even if they had cancelled or postponed the wedding, Zaibach still would've launched some kind of attack (either now or at the rescheduled wedding).
  • Heel Realization: Folken finally realizes he can't support Dornkirk's methods any longer and that he's on the wrong side.
  • Internal Reveal: Allen finally learns that Folken is Van's brother (something the others hadn't let him in on).
  • Killed Off for Real: Eriya and Naria. Also, in a sense, Folken's flagship (which has been part of the series since the third episode, is also destroyed).
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Folken's discontent with Dornkirk's slowly been building throughout the series. But it's Dornkirk showing absolutely no remorse or sympathy towards the loss of Eriya and Naria (and indeed being more conerned with the Fortune-enhancemnt test results) that finally costs him the loyalty of his Strategos.
  • Once More, with Clarity: Eriya and Naria's flashback from the previous episode gets revisited. We get the full story and context behind Folken's rescue and how they ended up cornered and jumping off that cliff.
  • Rapid Aging: Eriya and Naria experience this as a side effect of the Fortune-enhancement process.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Folken in his final scene with Dornkirk.
  • Wham Line: Folken shouting at Dornkirk in his final scene —a first for the series and showing that any loyalty or respect Folken had for Zaibach's Emperor is gone.
