Conrad tries to fix everything by himself and treats Jeremiah like he's just in the way. Jeremiah decides to take matters into his own hands and Belly comes with him to visit his estranged Aunt Julia to try and talk her out of selling the house. He is unsuccessful and tells Conrad that he will also be using his trust to buy the house and talk to their dad, Adam, about allowing it. Adam Fisher refuses to let them use their trusts to buy the house and Jeremiah gets angry with him and hangs up. The boys feel more connected as they are now going through things together. Steven and Taylor drive to Cousins as Steven wants to be there for the brothers and Belly. He opens up to Taylor about his grief and his fight with Belly.
Tropes
- Calling the Old Man Out: While Conrad usually does, this time Jeremiah uncharacteristically does too and hangs up on Adam when he refuses to let them use their trusts to buy the house. Conrad is thankful to Jeremiah.
- Cliffhanger: Conrad gets a text message while they're starting the film. He gets up and leaves the room, with Steven noticing and following him down to the beach where Steven tries to ask what's happening as Conrad is having a panic attack.
- Empathic Environment: At prom, Conrad asks to talk to Belly outside, after a series of indications that the relationship isn't going well, and it's raining. He can't express himself and walks into the rain. Belly follows and they break up, both soaked.
- Half-Sibling Angst: Julia and Susannah had the same father, and it doesn't seem like the family was close as Jeremiah hasn't seen Julia in 10 years and she didn't attend her sister's funeral. When she realises who Jeremiah is, Julia states that his eyes are 'just like my father's', not theirs. She also seems to have bad memories of the few times she visited the beach house, even though she co-owned it with Susannah, all seemingly alluding to some sort of estrangement.
- Memorial Photo: Flashback. At Susannah's funeral in May, there's a portrait of her next to the casket.
- The Prom Plot: Flashback. Around April or so, Belly and Taylor attend Steven's prom. Belly asks Conrad to be her date and it doesn't go well, as Belly and Conrad break up at the dance.
- The Reveal:
- Julia and Susannah owned the beach house together, so it passed to Julia upon Susannah's death.
- Belly and Conrad broke up at Steven's prom, shortly before Susannah's death. They were together about 6 months, from October to April.
- At Susannah's funeral Belly and Conrad created a big scene by fighting, and Belly stormed out, completely forgetting to be there for Jeremiah.
