Recap / The Really Loud House S 1 E 7 The Guy Who Makes You Fly

Go To

Lincoln goes on vacation to escape his hectic family life, so Clyde takes over as the Man With the Plan in his absence.

Tropes:

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Apparently this is a power that can be passed on, because once Clyde agrees to the bet to be the new Man with the Plan in Lincoln's place, he starts speaking to the audience. Tellingly, when Lincoln tries speaking to the audience during Clyde's stint as the Man with the Plan, others can hear him. It's not until later when Lincoln regains his title as the Man with the Plan that he can speak to the audience with no problem.
    • Though, to be fair, the animated series already showed that the ability could be taught, as shown by Lincoln teaching Ronnie Anne how to do it. So, it might just be an ability intrinsic to those with the position of the Man with the Plan.
  • Call-Back:
    • The second act begins in an almost identical fashion to the series premiere, "The Macho Man With the Plan", complete with the camera angles and music.
    • The Hot and Fast Food Delivery Service from A Loud House Christmas reappears.
    • One of Chase's nicknames for Lynn Sr. is "Lynn-sanity". This is mainly used by Lynn Jr. in the animated series, though Lynn Sr. calls himself "Lynn-sanity Sr." in "Party Down", implying that Lynn Jr. invented that nickname and Lynn Sr. simply repurposed that name for himself.
  • Dramatic Drop: Lynn Sr. drops his plate of Chase-adillas on the floor when he finds out Leni broke up with his "number one hombre", Chase, followed by a Skyward Scream of a Big "NO!".
  • Handshake Substitute: Lynn Sr. and Chase are seen in flashback doing a ridiculously long one of these, which apparently lasts 10 minutes.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Lynn Sr. and Chase. Seeing as how it puts them in a love triangle with Leni, Lincoln and Clyde avert this by instead pairing Lynn Sr.'s bromance with Chase Sr.
  • Malicious Misnaming: One of the comments on Luna's "Put the Cap Back On" song calls her Luna Lame.
  • The Nicknamer: Chase is prone to giving Lynn Sr. a slew of nicknames. Apparently It Runs in the Family—so does Chase Sr.
  • One-Steve Limit:
    • One of Clyde's self-proclaimed nicknames is... the Man with the Plan. He quickly discards that one because it's already Lincoln's.
    • Averted with Leni's boyfriend and his dad, both of whom are named Chase.
  • Painful Rhyme: Some of Clyde's nicknames for himself, having to alter the pronunciations for some words to fit the rhyme. This is discussed with Leni, whom he is forced to make a board explaining "The Fella Who's Stella".
  • Running Gag: Clyde coming up with Man with the Plan-esque nicknames for himself, like the Fella Who's Stella, the Man Who Seeks to Understand, the Human Who's Boomin', and the Guy Who Tries.
  • Shout-Out: Among Chase's nicknames for Lynn Sr. are Mission Lynn-possible and Notorious D.A.D.. Chase Sr. similarly calls him Mr. Lynn-credible.
  • Title Drop: The title is Clyde's final and official nickname for himself, since he helps Lincoln's plans fly.
  • Toilet Humor: Lynn Jr. tells Lola to hurry up with a dump she is taking by saying "you will never be number one until you push out that number two!"
  • Tranquil Fury: When Clyde tells Rita that Luna hasn't been cleaning her room and apparently considers Rita as her personal maid, Rita's reaction is to stoically thank him for the conversation with an icy serenity that barely masks her rage and disappointment. Then she enters Luna's room, and all bets are off.
