This episode provides the example of

  • The Cat Came Back: Rowlf sings a song all about the Trope Namer, a cat that keeps returning despite all attempts to remove him from the household.
  • Collector of the Strange: Gonzo collects fungus.
  • Crazy Jealous Girl: Miss Piggy stuffs Kermit into Gonzo's fungus trunk to keep him away from Linda.
  • Flowers of Romance: After Kermit reveals to Miss Piggy that he has a crush on Linda, he leaves to pick up the flowers he ordered for her. When he returns with them, the jealous Miss Piggy locks him in the trunk where Gonzo was keeping his fungus collection. When Linda finds him and lets him out later, he tries to give her the flowers, only to find that they were crushed when he was thrown into the trunk. She shrugs it off, leading into a performance of "I've Got a Crush on You".
  • Interspecies Romance: Both Kermit the Frog and Linda the human have mutual affections for each other.
  • Lyrical Dissonance: "I'm So Happy" has cheerful, upbeat lyrics, set to a very somber tune. It's performed by two miserable, cobweb-covered Whatnots in an extremely dusty room.

Statler: I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't watched it!
Waldorf: Believe what?
Statler: I don't know. I wasn't watching.
