This episode has examples of

  • Comically Missing the Point: When Gonzo asks Shields and Yarnell for suggestions for an act, Shields pantomimes playing a piano. Gonzo takes that to mean he should massage a snake.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Due to seeing how they were acting in the dressing room, Scooter is certain that Shields and Yarnell are actually robots. They were just practicing for their Clinkers sketch.
  • Irony: Kermit convinces Fozzie to do a more original mime act than walking upstairs or walking against the wind. When his mime of feeding spaghetti to an elephant bombs...
Waldorf: I don't understand him. Why doesn't he do something clever, like walking upstairs or walking against the wind?
Statler: No way. The bear's got no imagination.
  • "King Kong" Climb: The "It's Lonely at the Top" number features Quongo the giant ape having already climbed on top of the Empire State Building, only with less kidnapping and more singing. The building's residents serve as his background singers, and just like in the film, he falls off at the end.
  • Reckless Gun Usage: Parodied in the wild west sketch, where Shields and Yarnell are gunslingers using fingers in place of guns. Yarnell's character accidentally gets shot in the face while fooling around.
Beauregard: Poor feller. His finger went off accidentally.
  • Resized Vocals: The Empire State Building's residents during "It's Lonely at the Top" all have chipmunk-like voices.
  • Speak in Unison: Gonzo so completely missing the point of what Shields was pantomiming stuns the duo into doing this.
Shields and Yarnell: Massaging a snake?
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Fozzie's "Bear Feeding an Elephant Spaghetti" is dismissed by the Muppets, but Shields and Yarnell do it in their final number.

Waldorf: Just when you think this show is terrible, something wonderful happens.
Statler: What?
Waldorf: It ends.
