This episode has examples of

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Fozzie does this during the "Pigs in Space" sketch, talking to his mother.
Fozzie: Uh, Ma, we're only acting. Don't worry.
  • It's All About Me: A Compressed Vice example. Fozzie is so desperate to have his mother see him perform, he inserts himself into as many sketches as possible... and he goes so far as to steal Miss Piggy's "Pigs in Space" costume so he can replace her as First Mate Piggy.
  • Look Behind You: When Kermit is about to introduce Cleo Laine's first number, Fozzie does this and pushes Kermit offstage when he looks, so he can introduce Cleo in order to impress his mother.
  • Non Sequitur: During "It Don't Mean a Thing," Cleo introduces every member of the Electric Mayhem.
Cleo: And then we have the weirdest man of the weird, the man on saxophone. Zoot!
Zoot: Hey, it is written: a zebra and a geranium should never use the same toothbrush.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Fozzie sneaks into the "Pigs in Space" sketch by wearing Piggy's costume and a blond wig. Link falls for it completely. Unfortunately for Fozzie, Link wants a kiss and chases Fozzie around the Swinetrek, and then backstage.
Link: Oh, come on! Please, oh, honey lamb...!
    Fozzie: Please! You're a pig, I'm a bear!
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Ultimately, Fozzie's attempts to impress his mother fail because she fell asleep. "Ma! How could you!?"

Waldorf: Well, should we call it a night?
Statler: Might as well. Certainly wouldn't call it a "show"!
