Recap / The Lion Guard S 2 E 21 Cave Of Secrets

Go To

Summary: The Lion Guard finds a mysterious cave that could contain what they need to defeat Scar, but they must traverse through dangerous hazards to learn its secrets.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Bookcase Passage: The discovery of a variation of this kickstarts the plot, although instead of a bookcase it's a strategically placed boulder at the back of the Lion Guard's lair.
  • Floorboard Failure: The Guard unintentionally end up discovering the secret underground passage by way of the rocky floor of the lair caving in beneath their feet.
  • It's the Journey That Counts: The Guard ventures into the cave in the hopes of finding what they think is a secret "powerful, unstoppable force" that helped the original lion guard defeat a great evil which they hope to use to defeat Scar. However, it turns out that the journey they undertake is a test of both their individual skills and teamwork, successful completion of which leads them to a reflection pool that shows them that the "powerful, unstoppable force" is the lion guard themselves.
  • Mythology Gag: The paintings on the walls show many iconic scenes from the original movie: the log walk from "Hakuna Matata", Timon's hula dance, Simba's presentation ritual and the final clash between Simba and Scar. Zira and the Outlander pride also make a brief appearance on a painting.
  • Secret Underground Passage: A literal rock slide passageway leads from the back of the lair within Pride Rock to the vast secret tunnel network beneath.
  • Tunnel Network: Virtually the entirety of episode takes in a vast network of underground caves beneath Pride Rock.
