Recap / The Legend Of Zelda 1989 E 13 The Moblins Are Revolting

Go To

Fed up from getting mistreated by Ganon, a Moblin gets his lucky day when Ganon leaves his latest creation, a wand that can trap anyone inside an impenetrable bubble, lying around on the ground within reach. The Moblin uses it to trap Ganon and shoves him into a Bottomless Pit, hoping to see him never return. With their new freedom, the Moblin and other monsters decide to get their revenge on Link and Princess Zelda by storming the castle, though their incompetence renders all of their attempts useless.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Bottomless Pit: Beneath Ganon's throne room is a large, deep pit that's just endless. It's even called "The Bottomless Pit" by Ganon himself within the episode. While he was forced into the pit to ensure he can never escape, he manages to float back up by using his own magic inside the bubble he's trapped in.
  • The Dog Bites Back: The leading Moblin that turns on Ganon. Not only was he previously zapped by him moments before getting revenge on him, he was also used as a guinea pig to test out a new wand.
  • Exact Words: After handing the wand to another Moblin, the new leader tells him not to drop it. Since he didn't completely hear what was said, the Moblin asks what not to do, only for the first one to angrily reply "Drop it, stupid!" Thinking it's an order, he drops it on purpose.
  • Hulk Speak: Both the Goriya and Moblins speak in (depending on the individual) either a deep or high-pitched voice with simplistic sentences to reinforce their incompetence.
  • Idiot Ball: After finding out that Ganon is trapped inside a bubble, Link decides it's a good idea to play with it like it's a giant beachball instead of helping Zelda grab the Triforce of Power, then tossing Ganon towards her while she's standing next to it. While he is unaware that only the Triforce of Power can free him, the episode frames the situation as the biggest chance to grab it since all living threats were either gone or trapped, meaning the only way to return to the status quo of the Triforce pieces staying separate is to have either Link or Zelda make a mistake. Needless to say, Princess Zelda is furious with him when they return to the castle.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Usually Ganon is the one to suffer from his minions' incompetence, though the Moblin that rebelled against him very quickly learns the same frustration after another Moblin fails to follow a basic order correctly. He openly laments about it:
Moblin: Now me know how Ganon feels.
