• Battle Boomerang: Quint made one filled with explosives, and Jack uses it against the worm monster.
• Big Damn Heroes: Thrull saves the kids from the worm monster.
• Food Fight: The kids have one while eating in the mall.
• Growling Gut: Happens to June, Quint and Dirk, hence why they agree to stay in the mall longer to eat first.
• Instantly Proven Wrong: The episode opens with Jack telling Rover (and thus the viewer) how perfect their group of friends is. Cue to June, Quint and Dirk arguing.
• Let's Split Up, Gang!: Averted; the group decides to split up while being chased by the worm monster, since it can’t chase them all at once, but they all end up going in the same direction anyway.
• The Mall: Jack leads the team on a quest in the local mall.
• Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The kids manage to get rid of the worm monster, but in the process they cause it to destroy the main entrance of the mall, thus trapping them inside with a horde of zombies.
• Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure: The plot is kicked off by an argument between June, Quint and Dirk, which promps Jack to try and get everybody on the same page again. They argue a couple more times throughout the episode. Ultimately averted when it turns out their friendship was never in danger because of it.
• What the Hell, Hero?: June, Quint and Dirk have this reaction when they learn Jack found another way out of the mall, but didn’t tell them since he wanted to try and cheer them up first.
• You Can Talk?: The kids are quite surprised to hear a monster speak English instead of just roaring/grunting.
