Tropes:

  • The Butler Did It: Parodied when Rose immediately stands up and points to the waiter.
    Rose: The butler did it!
    Waiter: I'm a maître d'.
Rose: Thank you. *Beat* The maître d' did it!
  • Eagle-Eye Detection: Dorothy solves both of the mysteries they encounter thanks to her observation skills.
  • The Game Never Stopped: Rose participated in the ruse at the request of the hotel as revenge for Blanche's borrowing her earrings without permission and then kicking Rose out of their shared hotel room.
  • Ironic Echo: Early in the episode, when Rose discovers that Blanche was wearing her earrings despite claiming she didn't know where they were, Blanche responds to her lying about not knowing about it by stating "there could be two explanations". Later, when Rose reveals that she, at the request of the hotel, sprayed defogger on a pocket mirror as part of the ruse to make it appear that Kendall was killed, she starts the explanation that her involvement in the ruse was revenge for Blanche borrowing her earrings without permission with "there could be two explanations".
  • Mistaken Death Confirmation: The girls are invited to a murder mystery weekend by Blanche's boss, Kendall Nesbitt. During the course of the events, Kendall is found stabbed to death in Blanche's hotel room. Dorothy puts a mirror under his nose, and when the glass doesn't steam from his breath, they conclude that he really must be dead. It turns out to be all part of the show, but until The Reveal, Blanche is under suspicion of murder and terrified out of her wits.
  • Mystery Episode: Blanche's boss is killed for real during a Mystery Dinner Party and another investigation occurs. The killer is Blanche's coworker, but it turns out to be another game.
  • Rewatch Bonus: Dorothy surmises that Posey killed Kendall by placing a knife in her purse before leaving the dining room to go to Blanche's room to stab him. If you rewind the episode, you can see Dorothy's scenario play out in the background after Blanche gives Kendall her room key.
  • Rule of Three: A character responding to Rose (in particular, when she has a Captain Obvious moment) by going, "St. Olaf?" (with the detective in the Mystery Dinner Party adding, "South Side?" when she makes an additional obvious comment).
  • Stealing from the Hotel: Sophia happily brags that she made off with a whole silver place setting during a mystery dinner. At the end of the episode, she claims that "no crimes were committed after all"... but needs help carrying her purse to the car.
