A Plot: Barry tries to break up Beverly's group of friends, which results in a turf war over the backyard.

B Plot: Adam's attempts to trick Murray into loving theater backfire.

  • The Cameo: Erica only appears for three seconds and only has one line ("no"). Lampshaded by Barry:
Barry: When you think about it, she's in college. So there's no way she'd be able to participate in this.
  • Double-Meaning Title: Barry continues comparing the JTP's feud with Beverly's friends with the gang war in Colors, while Adam's plot is heavily influenced by Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
  • Hidden Depths: Coach Mellor expresses a deep love of musical theater when he's called in to substitute teach half of Adam's drama group, particularly a cat-themed musical with a one-word title (which everyone remembers the title of except him).
  • Lampshade Hanging: Still-in-College Erica only makes a brief cameo when Barry calls for help and she refuses, followed by Barry remarking how implausible her participating in local events would be, and Geoff stating he was hoping to see her this week.
  • Misaimed Fandom: In-universe example. Barry likens the JTP’s conflict with the mothers to a Colors-like turf war. Matt however, attempts to call both him and the guys out for comparing their conflict to the film, when their home environment (the suburbs) alone doesn’t even match the corrupt environment portrayed in the movie. However, the rest of the JTP decide to just tell him to go along with it since Barry won’t be convince anyway.
