A Plot: When Pops is abruptly evicted from his apartment for starting a fire, he moves in with Beverly and the family. This leads to Beverly becoming concerned about how well she'll be treated at his age, and trying to claim a spot in Adam's future life, which drives him away.
B Plot: Barry saves Erica from a dangerous candy mixture, and in return, wants her to get him a date with Lainey. Erica lies to Barry, saying Lainey wants to go on a date, but this leads to him mistakenly eating the mixture and being rushed to the Hospital.
- Moment Killer: At the end of the B Plot, Lainey visits Barry in the hospital and is actually impressed at the lengths he was willing to go to date her, but Beverly bursts into the room having only just recently heard about his condition, and asks some embarrassing comments about the state of his digestive system.
- Soda-Candy 'Splosion: Barry stops Erica from consuming Diet Coke and Pop Rocks. Citing the urban legend, he claims that Erica owes him a life debt and makes her help him in his quest to win Lainey's affections. Later, after she rejects him, he tries to commit suicide by mixing the two. This doesn't work, but he has stomach trouble the next day.
- You Owe Me: The B Plot starts with Barry using this justification to get Erica to hook him up with Lainey.
