Go To

A Plot: Beverly intervenes after Mr. Mellor singles Adam out during a game.

B Plot: Barry can't handle it when Erica bests him at a new board game: Trivial Pursuit.

  • Always Second Best: Barry has an outburst along these lines after losing at "Barry-opoly", saying that he knows Erica is better at him when it comes to things like intelligence, and game night helped him feel like he's still good at something.
  • Beat Them at Their Own Game: Erica does this literally, beating Barry in the "Barry-opoly" game he made and heavily rigged in his own favor after his repeated losses at Trivial Pursuit.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Because his mother made a fuss about dodge ball (when Adam didn't even want her to), gym teacher Rick Mellor gets the entire class to throw balls at him in the next class. He later apologizes for singling Adam out, saying that he was misguided in his attempt to help prepare Adam for the harshness of life.
  • Exact Words: First, when Beverly first protests about Adam getting bruised in a dodge ball game, it leads to the game being banned...and then instantly replaced with the titular "Big Baby Ball", which is like dodge ball, but it's Adam versus literally the entire rest of the class. Later, after Beverly promises not to intrude on school grounds for a year in exchange for getting the apologetic Mr. Mellor's job back, she bothers the principal at his house.
  • Fixing the Game: Barry attempts this after losing his first Trivial Pursuit game, having read all of the answers in advance; this fails because he doesn't remember the questions themselves, and Erica reads the cards out-of-order after catching on. Later, after Barry's outburst of feeling like he's Always Second Best, Erica decides "he needs a win" and fixes a Trivial Pursuit game in his favor, by secretly asking him questions from the Junior edition.
  • Throwing the Fight: The Tag has Beverly intentionally losing to Barry at "Barry-opoly", copying Erica's earlier statement that "he needed a win".
  • Tough Love: Mr. Mellor claims this as his motivation for how he had been treating Adam in gym class.
