A Plot: When Adam makes a mixtape for both Beverly and Dana, who accidentally hears it while riding home with Adam, a problem ensures in their relationship, landing Adam into trouble with Beverly.
B Plot: Barry gets a fake I.D., which is quickly confiscated by Coach Mellor when he shows it off to the whole school. However, Barry has to make good on some promises he made to friends in order to get into a senior party, so he uses Murray's I.D.
- Digging Yourself Deeper: Adam finds himself unable to just be honest with Dana after the mixtape incident, so he tries to apologize with a second mixtape with a personalized case. When Dana turns it down, he later tries to apologize to Beverly with the same tape, who also ends up even more upset than before when she sees him hiding said case.
- Line-of-Sight Name: Barry has trouble coming up with a name for his fake I.D., with one of his suggestions being "Mr. Tablecloth".
- Love Triangle: An odd version, in that both Dana (girlfriend) and Beverly (mother) are upset that they aren't Adam's special someone.
- Must State If You're a Cop: In The Tag, Pops goes to get a fake I.D. to state he's under 60. The guy making them not only says this, but also states that he gets to keep the badge for a year if Pops is lying.
- Selective Obliviousness: Pops tells Beverly that a mixtape was obviously not a gift meant for a mother and that she's been acting too clingy towards Adam. As a result, she feels so apologetic that she then interprets Pops repeatedly stating "DON'T interfere" with Adam's love life as "DO interfere", though thankfully it all ends well.
- Wrong Assumption: The A Plot starts with Beverly, nostalgic for the days when her children would show their love with gifts, assumes that a mixtape Adam made for his "special someone" is herself instead of the far more obvious option of his girlfriend. Adam's too afraid of upsetting her to state the truth, so he just makes a second mixtape, which inevitably leads to trouble when Beverly plays her tape while escorting them to the theater.
