Jo's attendance at Eastland is threatened when her scholarship is cut, and her only hope of staying is to apply for one that's supplied by Blair's family.
This episode contains examples of:
- Determinator: Jo resorts to several tactics to pay for her tuition, including doing other student's work, and laundry, but eventually realizes that it won't be enough.
- Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Jo refuses to accept help from anyone with the last name Warner, even though her problems could easily be solved by applying for the scholarship.
- Friendship Moment: In the end, Blair applies for the scholarship in Jo's name so that she can stay. Although Jo feels as though she will have to owe Blair for the rest of her life, Blair assures her that she doesn't owe her a thing, and that she only did it because she wants Jo to stay because they're friends.
- Hero with an F in Good: Blair is rather condescending to Jo at first about helping her, even partially equating it to her family's support of animals in Africa.
- Idiot Ball: Jo grabs it in this episode, as she makes things harder for herself by trying to find ways outside of a scholarship to stay at school instead of just doing like everyone tells her and simply ask Blair for help.
