Recap / The Brady Bunch S 4 E 2 Pass The Tabu

Go To

Continuing on from Greg's wipeout last episode, the Bradys now unwittingly continue to "Pass The Tabu" to each other.

Mike has found Greg from where he wiped out and swims towards him, helping him out of the water. Having gotten Greg to the shore, they decide to have the hotel doctor take a look at him, so they decide to get back. Before they leave, Jan finds the tiki again as it is washed ashore, and puts it in her bag.

The next day, as Greg is OK, Mike has to get to work again, while Carol, Alice and the girls are planning to go sightseeing again and have a picnic, the boys elect to hang around the beach instead.

And the boys hang at the beach, where Peter and Bobby prove to be real cock blocks to Greg. Meanwhile, somewhere else, as the women have just finished with their picnic and are planning to go do some sightseeing, a tarantula crawls into Jan's bag, where the tiki is.

Next up, as the sightseeing is done, Jan meets the boys at the beach, and gives Bobby the tiki back. Only that David mentions that it's taboo, parroting what Hanalei had said in the previous episode, only that he rubs it off as "some old island superstition". So do Greg and Peter, but Bobby suddenly thinks of the terrible things that had happened to them so far, and starts to wonder if the taboo is real.

Back at the hotel, as the girls have left their bags at their room, and are probably out at dinner, the tarantula crawls out of Jan's bag, and across the hall to the boys' room, where now, Bobby is questioning whether the taboo really exists, which Greg and Peter dismiss as nonsense. But Bobby is still wary and relinquishes the tiki, which Peter then takes and puts around his neck, saying "Bad luck, come and get me" just as the tarantula begins crawling up his bed. And the boys get to sleep. Moments later, the tarantula crawls on Peter. Luckily, Greg is able to flick the tarantula off to the floor. The noise boys make attracts Mike, who then comes in, and takes the tarantula out in a paper bag.

Now Peter has gotten superstitious too and doesn't want the tiki anymore. Greg tells them that the idol had nothing to do with the spider accident, to which Peter gives the tiki to him, but misses and accidentally hits Greg on the head with it, prompting Bobby to say "told you it was bad luck".

Next day, as the boys and David are doing some sightseeing of their own, David tells them about another superstition related to the mountains, to which they question about the tiki. He tells them that old Hanalei believes in the superstitions, and directs them to him.

When the boys show the tiki to Hanalei, he tells them about the taboo, and that the only way to get rid of the bad luck is to take the idol back to an ancient burial ground of old Hawaiian kings, where his grandfather, who was just as superstitious as he, told him never to go. But he still points out the direction to the boys.

As the boys talk to their parents about it, Mike and Carol dismiss the taboo as superstition again, but just as they leave, the boys decide that tomorrow, they will have to take the idol back to the burial ground. Greg asks the girls to cover for them, which they agree to.

The next day, the boys take the bus to the burial ground, and set off on foot, and to find their way back, Greg takes Bobby's bag of popcorn and decides to leave a trail, to which Bobby objects "I like my popcorn!"

Meanwhile, back at the hotel room, Carol is worried that the boys aren't back yet, yet it's getting quite late.

Eventually, the boys find a hidden cave, and decide to go inside, but just as soon as they're in, a mysterious man emerges from the nearby bushes, watching them closely.
