- Department of Redundancy Department: Thing's full name is "Thing T. Thing," with the middle initial being for "Thing."
- Everyone Knows Morse: Thing taps out his explanation for the charade in Morse code, which Gomez has no trouble translating.
- Faked Kidnapping: Feeling unappreciated, Thing disappears from his box and leaves a ransom note in the house to see if the family cares enough to pay the ransom.
- Mysterious Middle Initial: Subverted. When the Addamses hire a detective to find Thing, they say his name is Thing T. Thing. When asked what the T. stands for, they say it means Thing.
- Worth It: Subverted. While Sam Diamond originally agrees to take the case, he ultimately decides having his case fee paid in diamonds doesn't make up for the creepiness he's experiencing.
