Chapter 4: Spike POV

Spike Spiegel awakens to the feeling of lying in a bed rather than on his couch and the presence of someone else in his bed. He opens an eye to see a boy with bright orange hair, who retreats to the other top bunk, and grudgingly rouses himself to address his apparent kidnapping situation. The timid orange-haired boy, at Spike's prompting, introduces himself as Hinata Shoyo.

From the bunk below Hinata's, a teenage boy with dark pink hair stirs awake and is startled by his surroundings. His voice comes without moving his lips, and Hinata asks if he's a ventriloquist before launching into a barrage of questions, to Spike's sympathies. As Spike moves to try to rescue him, he dodges a kick from the very short but very dangerous-looking man in the final bed.

As Spike tries to calm him, he attacks, escalating into a brawl that ends with him pinning Spike to the ground. Hinata speaks up, his timidity replaced by ferocity, and matches the man's glare as he persuades him to let Spike go. Hinata runs through introductions, with the teenager giving the name Saiki Kusuo, and the short man gives the name Levi. Hinata asks how old he is, and at hearing he's 31 and Hinata is 15, Spike is saved from having to suppress laughter when a scream comes from outside. Spike leads the others out of the room to find others emerging from other rooms.
