Chapter 1: Zuko's POV

Zuko stirs awake in a comfortable but unfamiliar room, three other people in the room still asleep on bunk beds. He quietly looks around, opening the window to reveal a bright, sunny day and a forest with a mild climate outside, and that his room is a few meters above the ground. One of two wardrobes in the room has his clothes and his broadswords in one half, and his firebending works easily.

He rouses a green-haired boy in another bed, who reacts in shock and panic but introduces himself as Midoriya Izuku when they realize they're from countries unknown to each other. Midoriya mutters over the implications, making Zuko snap at him in annoyance, and the fire shown off gets Midoriya muttering over his powers instead, to Zuko's mixed pleasure.

Midoriya falls silent when the red-haired boy on the bunk above him wakes up, as shocked and confused about the situation as them, shortly followed by the fourth boy in the bunk below Zuko's, a small boy who floats above the ground. An amazed Midoriya starts asking questions of the boy, who introduces himself as Hanako and prefers the term 'apparition' to 'ghost.' The red-haired boy cuts him off as he climbs down, introducing himself as Yukihira Souma.

Their attention soon turns to the door leading out, and after an argument about whether they should open it, Midoriya asks Hanako to look on the other side. The apparition passes through the wall, then peeks his head back through and says it's just a normal hallway outside. Zuko, swords in hand, leads them outside into a luxurious hallway with nine other doors. As they wonder about the presence of others, Hanako checks by sticking his head through another door.
