The family is having a relaxing day chatting on roof. Naddy, however, doesn't seem to be feeling it, and Hahari demands an explanation. She brushes it off by saying that she feels out of sorts when the seasons change. Given that It's Always Spring, the others don't buy it. When both Rentarou and Chiyo start asking what's wrong, Naddy relents and reveals that she received a complaint from another Japanese teacher, saying that she'll be a bad influence on the students if she uses improper language.
Rentarou immediately goes to the teacher, Fumi Utsushiro, and insists that he has no issue understanding her. After all, Naddy's finally free from the constraints she's had her whole life and Rentarou doesn't want that to be taken away from her. Utsushiro points out that it doesn't matter if Rentarou is the only one who can understand her. Other students, teachers, guardians and even other citizens need to be able to understand her as well.
Rentarou's family, which conveniently comprises all of those categories, pipes up in Naddy's defense. Hahari notes that she could force Utsushiro to withdraw the complaint, but doesn't believe Naddy would want that.
Feeling the pressure, Utsushiro insists on the family taking a test to see how well they can understand Naddy's speech by having her read a passage in her own words, then having the others transcribe the meaning. Despite their earlier bravado, Rentarou is the only one who has no issues whatsoever. When he realizes this, he pretends to be struggling in an attempt to encourage the others to remember how Naddy has always spoken to them.
This helps most of them, but Yaku is still struggling. Rentarou can't speak up due to it being a test (and having already been warned earlier), but chooses to trust that Yaku can pull it off.
When the test concludes, Utsushiro is astonished to find that every paper has been accurately written. She finally picks up Yaku's test, hoping that she won't have to rescind her warning. Naddy reads Yaku's test over her shoulder and is moved to tears.
Utsushiro agrees to back off, but promises to return the second she receives a complaint from a student. A footnote states that Naddy hasn't received any complaints because the students like her so much. After she leaves, Nano wonders what Yaku could have written since it's impossible for her to have understood Naddy.
Naddy reveals that, rather than transcribing what she said, Yaku wrote a letter explaining how much Naddy means to her and asked Utsushiro to forgive her this time. She decides that Utsushiro must have been moved by the letter and let things slide. When the rest of the family sees it, however, it's revealed that Yaku wrote in a very old-fashioned handwriting that the others describe as chicken-scratch from hell. Naddy, as someone from an old-fashioned family, had no trouble reading it, and Uto suspects that Utsushiro gave up because she didn't want to admit that she couldn't.
Naddy thanks everyone for their help. Rentarou steps forward, saying that he wouldn't be much of a boyfriend if he didn't help. After all, even if he couldn't understand her words, he could undersand her feelings. Touched, Naddy asks if he knows what she's thinking of at that moment. Without speaking, Rentarou gives her a kiss and the chapter ends.
