Recap / The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Really Really Really Really Love You Ch 030

Go To

The girls start complimenting each other's eyes, with Rentarou repeatedly approving their statements. Hahari mentions that her personal maid, 19-year-old Mei Meido, has beautiful eyes, but Karane points out that she's never opened her eyes before. The others quickly grow curious, and Hahari explains that Mei's eyes are rainbow colored. Kusuri immediately asks to see them, but Mei finds herself unable to open her eyes due to them being closed for so long. She attempts to slice off her eyelids, but Hahari quickly stops her from doing so. Kusuri whines about wanting to see Mei's eyes, and the girls try various methods to get Mei to open those bright eyes.

Shizuka tries scaring her, but it doesn't work. Kusuri offers to splash a painful drug on her face, but the idea gets shot down. Nano shanks her with a boxcutter, but she calmly thanks Hahari for letting her be of service. (Not to mention Nano only pretended to stab her.) Kurumi offers her a steamed bun, but she simply finds it delicious, not eye-openingly so. Hakari tries to get Karane to flirt with Hahari, but she quickly stops her out of jealousy.

Rentarou wants to satisfy everyone's desire to see Mei's eyes, and he decides to try and make her laugh. To this end, he tells her a story about how he was playing a word game with Kusuri that caused him to struggle to properly say a similar sounding phrase. He succeeds in getting Mei to laugh, but her eyes remain shut. That's when Rentarou reveals that the story wasn't about him; it was about Hahari.

The resulting Oh, Crap! face leads to open eyes and—ZING!!

Rentarou explains to the others that he was able to get Mei to open those bright eyes by using her loyalty to Hahari against her. After Kusuri affirms that Mei's eyes are indeed rainbow colored, Hahari quickly catches on that Mei has fallen in Love at First Sight with Rentarou. The other girls invite her to join the harem, but she refuses to date her mistress's boyfriend. However, Hahari orders her to be honest about her feelings, and Mei confesses to Rentarou.

Tropes:

  • Decoy Backstory: Rentarou tells Mei about a time when he played a word game with Kusuri, and afterwards was unable to properly say a similar sounding phrase. When Mei laughs at the story, Rentarou reveals that it actually happened to her master Hahari and not him. The resulting Oh, Crap! face is what finally gets her to open those bright eyes, which was Rentarou's objective in telling the aforementioned story.
  • Evil Laugh: Discussed. When Rentarou proposes getting Mei to laugh to get her to open her eyes, Karane points out that open-eyed laughter is primarily done by villains.
  • Failed Attempt at Scaring: Played for Laughs. Shizuka uses her text to speech app to try and scare Mei into opening her eyes. Rentarou's Comical Overreacting gets a bigger scare from the others.
  • Imagine Spot: Of Mei pulling a Light Yagami-esque laugh.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Mei calmly thanks Hahari for letting her be of service to her after Nano pretends to stab her.
  • Oh, Crap!: Invoked. Rentarou tells Mei about a humiliating incident as though it happened to him, and when Mei laughs at the story, he reveals that the incident actually happened to Hahari. This is what finally gets her to open those bright eyes.
  • Shout-Out: The subject of Kusuri's word game was My Neighbor Totoro.
