Recap / Teen Titans S 5 E 1 Homecoming Part One

Go To

Beast Boy's past returns when a messenger probe lands at Titans Tower; his old team, the Doom Patrol, have been captured by the Brotherhood of Evil!

Tropes

  • Badass in Distress: The entire Doom Patrol.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: Despite holding the Doom Patrol for more than five months, The Brain only decides to kill the heroes once he's finished his project.
  • Bookends: Beast Boy suffers this twice by Mento, ignoring the man's orders for the greater good in order to save his teammates.
  • Breaking Old Trends: The Doom Patrol frequently refer to each other by their real names, breaking the shows rule of only using superhero identities.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: As far as Mento is concerned, Beast Boy should've gone after the Brain rather than save everyone.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Beast Boy is more serious here than he normally is, as noted by Raven. Robin explains that he's clearly worried about his old team and family.
  • Sadistic Choice: Towards the end, Beast Boy has one: either go after the Brotherhood or save the Titans and Doom Patrol. He chooses the latter, but Mento thinks he made the wrong choice.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: In the opening flashback, Beast Boy ignored Mento's orders to prioritize destroying the Brotherhoods doomsday device over saving them. He only did so because the stress of the situation caused him to unlock his T-Rex transformation, which made him strong enough to actually save them, which allowed Negative Man to destroy the machine himself. Despite this, Mento still chews Beast Boy out for saving them instead of destroying the machine, preferring that Beast Boy follow orders. To this day he still considers Beast Boy's actions a mistake.
  • What the Hell, Hero?
    • Mento calls Beast Boy out twice for his inability to follow orders.
    • Both the Doom Patrol and the Teen Titans give Mento one for his unfair treatment towards Beast Boy, especially when he saved their lives and Mento kept saying otherwise.
