Mildred's Friend tells the tale of his travels with her after leaving for the Frozen North.
- All for Nothing:
- Susie going into the Metaphysical Reserve turns out to be for naught, as Mildred is still very much alive. Just without her magic anymore.
- Mildred spent a century trying to get to the Frozen North to find her parents, only to learn from a bartender that they both died by the time she reaches there, much to her devastation.
- Didn't Think This Through: Mildred spends a century and change searching for her parents. Apparently never once stopping to remember that unlike her, they aren't immortal. Hence when she finally tracks them to their last known location, they're long deceased.
- The Hermit: What Mildred becomes after losing her memory.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Getting rid of her magic has the side effect of wiping Mildred's memory of just about everything, including Mildred's Friend.
- Tomato in the Mirror: Mildred writes a note telling whoever finds it to guard her jars of magic. Then loses the last of her memory, finds said note, and becomes said Jar Guard herself.
- Wingding Eyes: A flame going out appears in Mildred's eyes when she removes the last bit of magic.
- Wrong Turn at Albuquerque: Mildred keeps missing her stop at the Frozen North because she falls asleep right after snacking. Every time she does, she takes her frustration at whatever place she ended up. By the time she finally reaches the Frozen North, it's been 120 years and her parents are long gone.
