Old rivalries flare up between Duck, Bruce, and Percy when they're forced to work together on the construction of a new line.
Tropes:
- Adaptational Jerkass: Splatter, Dodge, and Dennis:
- Splatter and Dodge weren't really all that bad in their only appearance, only laughing rudely at the steam engines when they got covered in sneezing powder; here, they're a pair of ungrateful bastards who don't hesitate to mock Duck and Oliver, despite their help.
- Dennis was more of a Lazy Bum in the television show and atoned for his mistake of tricking Thomas into doing his work; here, he joins Splatter and Dodge in on the heckling.
- Adaptational Nice Guy: Scruffey wasn't as forgiving in the television series.
- Foreshadowing: When Duck starts ripping into Bruce at Tidmouth, Bruce mutters, "I'm already regretting this," in a low tone. As it turns out, he had volunteered for the job, despite his and Duck's history.
- Forgiveness: Pretty much the theme of the episode.
- Jerkass Ball: Duck grabs this the minute Bruce shows up, and he convinces Percy to grab on.
- Mythology Gag:
- Oliver falls into a turntable well, much like he did in "Oliver Owns Up."
- The subplot with Duck, Bruce, and Percy is basically an extended version of "Diesel Does It Again."
- No Sympathy For Grudge Holders: Toby makes it very clear he doesn't like that Duck and Percy aren't willing to let bygones be bygones.
- What the Hell, Hero?:
- Toby to all three engines about their actions towards each other;
- He later gets one when it's revealed that he only persuaded them to play nice because Sir Topham Hatt asked him to, making it look like he had an ulterior motive.
- Sir Topham Hatt really lets Bruce have it after he gives Duck a hard bump out of misguided retaliation.
- Toby to all three engines about their actions towards each other;
