Recap / Star Wars Resistance S2E15 "The New World"

Go To

Doza takes the Colossus to a hidden world in the Outer Rim, only to find it's inhabited by a race of beings who don't like them, for a very good reason.

Tropes:

  • Bittersweet Ending: Leaning heavily towards the "sweet" side. The Colossus has found a new home and, after a false start, has gained the blessing of the locals to settle there. However, Kaz is disturbed by his experiences and strives to do more to stop the First Order, while simultaneously aware that the war may yet spread to Aeos anyway.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Yeager is adamant that the people of the Colossus do not engage the Aeosians, accepting the fact that they are trespassing on Aeos Prime and the locals thus have every right to be mad at them. He reiterates this to Doza when the latter sends his security droids to help, but by that point, the Aeosians have already launched a pre-emptive attack and are clearly too angry to listen to reason, so deploying defensive measures is perfectly reasonable.
  • Cassandra Truth: The Aeosians, having recently been attacked by the First Order, assume that the Colossus and its residents are also with the First Order, a perception not helped by the battle droids' overzealous response, Griff's Imperial equipment, and the fact that only the queen seems to speak Galactic Basic. Said queen refuses to believe Kaz when he insists that they're not part of the First Order, and only by escaping for long enough to heal one of the wounded Aeosians does he manage to persuade her they're on the same side.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Griff, who finally gets his backstory explained in full detail.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Griff says this of himself, and of Doza: they knew when to call it quits and defect from the Empire, and given that the Empire collapsed while they survived, they made the right choice.
  • Oh, Crap!: Griff has a subdued one when the Aeosians find his Stormtrooper helmet and take it as evidence that he's with the First Order.
  • The Reveal: Griff was a pilot under Doza's command back when they worked for the Empire. When Doza realized that the Empire was corrupt, he persuaded some of his men including Griff to desert with him.
  • Translation by Volume: The Aeosians don't seem to understand Galactic Basic, so when Kaz and Griff are brought before their queen, Kaz assumes she doesn't understand it either and tries to communicate with her by talking extremely slowly and clearly. The baffled queen asks, in fluent Galactic Basic, why he's speaking so strangely and whether there's something wrong with him.
