Ichabod and Abbie struggle to find a mystical object that can unleash the forces of Purgatory onto Earth.

- All Just a Dream: The first half of the episode is revealed to be an illusion created by Henry to get Ichabod and Abbie to reveal the location of the Gehenna key.
- Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: Benjamin Franklin joins the laundry list of historical figures who not only knew Ichabod, but were secretly agents in the war between good and evil. Notably, Franklin's famous kite experiment was an attempt to destroy the Gehenna key with a bolt of lightning.
- Imposter Forgot One Detail: Fake!Ichabod pronounces "Lieutenant" like "loo-tenant" instead of "left-tenant," alerting Abbie to the fact that this isn't the genuine article.
- Internal Reveal: Katrina learns that Death is none other than Abraham, her former betrothed.
- Plot Device: The Gehenna key, which allows anyone to travel to and from Purgatory.
- Rise from Your Grave: Ichabod after having been Buried Alive in the previous episode. Partially justified as he manages to hand mix some gunpowder to blow his way out.
