Everybody in the hospital is struggling to find a case unique enough to be published in a medical journal for a chance to go to Reno.
- Ass Shove: "Careful there, sweetcheeks, I haven't decided which way I'm going to take your temperature."
- Awful Wedded Life: Turns out that, instead of getting laid, Kelso sends his wife away to fat camp for their anniversary.
- Calling the Old Man Out: JD stands up to Cox and, continuing from the previous episode, calls him out for sabotaging his career.JD: I wanna be like you, but a more successful you.
- Happily Married: Subverted. Kelso pretends that his wedding anniversary gets him laid and leaves him in a great mood such that it's the one day a year people can ask him for things so that that's the one day a year people ask him for things.
- Humble Pie: After refusing to accept help from the wealthy patient (her last name matches one of the wings of the hospital) and getting called out by JD, Cox finally returns to the patient and agrees to let her help him out.
- Secret-Keeper: Turk finds out Kelso's secret and agrees to keep it in return for the argon laser he forgot to ask for the day before.
- Those Two Guys: Inverted with Eliot and Carla, who don't spend much time together apart from hanging out with Turk and JD.
