Widowed mom Nicole struggles to raise her only child Dion, not knowing the second-grader possesses powers beyond anyone's comprehension.

- Cassandra Truth: Nicole takes Dion to her sister Kat for a checkup after first seeing his powers, but Kat can’t find anything wrong with Dion and thus doesn’t believe Nicole’s story about his powers.
- Drowning My Sorrows: After a particular hard day, Nicole can be seen drinking an entire bottle of wine while taking a bath.
- Eating Lunch Alone: Dion spends half of lunchtime eating alone.
- Flash Forward: At the very beginning of the episode, there are some brief scenes of Dion's fight with The Crooked Man from episode 9.
- Gilligan Cut: Seeing that she's late, Nicole quickly get to her new job. Then we cut to Nicole with her head on the table at the cafe, because she got fired before she could even began. Apparently, her would-be boss expect their employees to be punctual and put her job before everything else.
- Literal-Minded: When Dion uses his powers to lift fish out of the lake, Nicole informs him they will die without water. But instead of putting them back, like she intended, Dion raises some water from the lake to put the still airborn fish in waterbubbles.
