• One-Steve Limit: May likens the beauty of the lake with how she and the lake share the same name. Max doesn't see the connection.
  May: Who asked you?
• Paper-Thin Disguise: Subverted, Meowth's Volbeat disguise is actually pretty convincing (he even emulates flight by dangling from the Rockets' balloon), at least until he shows his face.
• The Power of Love: May says this verbatim at the end of the episode, when Romeo and Juliet finally perfect their performance.
  Ash: The power of love?
  May: You'll understand when you're older, Ash. (winks)
• Thinks Like a Romance Novel: Not unlike Misty, May was really into helping Romeo confess to Juliet.
