Tropes

  • Actor Allusion: During the radio drama, James provides the sound effects for Prince Goldenrod's Charizard. While it may fly over the head of dub-only viewers, those familiar with the Japanese version will see it as a nod to Shin-ichiro Miki, who voices Kojiro and Satoshi's Lizardon (the Japanese equivalents of James and Charizard).
  • All Part of the Show: DJ Mary narrates the fight between Ash and Team Rocket into the show.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Ash and his friends are wooden actors.
  • Costumer: We see a visualization of the radio play the gang is performing, with them all in period costumes.
  • Live Episode: In-Universe, when Team Rocket destroys the tape of a radio drama, they and Ash, Misty, and Brock have to perform the script live.
  • Off the Rails: The entire story, courtesy of Team Rocket's "improvising".
  • Performance Anxiety: Ash is rattled when he hears that everyone he knows in Pallet Town will be listening to his radio interview. Fortunately the host knows how to put him at ease.
  • Reset Button: DJ Mary has the Master Stone undo all the changes in the story Team Rocket made.
  • Show Within a Show: The Pokémon Drama Hour presentation of "Brave Prince Goldenrod".
  • Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: The radio drama's dialog.
