Tropes

  • Bait-and-Switch: After Misty commented what could be so important in Ash's backpack for someone to steal it, Ash searched his coat crying "My badges! My Pokedex and Pokeballs!"...before saying they're still in his pockets.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Turns out that the Houndour were stealing food to feed an injured packmate.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Brock's plan was to catch the thief using a real hotdog alongside a fake, anticipating the thief would take the fake. Unfortunately, he realized too late that a hungry Pokémon would likely get very angry over such a trick.
Brock: (Upon being surrounded by the Houndour pack) Maybe giving them fake food wasn't such a good idea after all.
Misty: Well, maybe you should've thought of that before, Brock!
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Ash manages to make nice with the Houndour after helping them save their packmate.
  • Hellhound: The Houndour, though Ash was able to win them over.
  • Identical Twin Id Tag: The Houndour leader has scars on its face.
  • Rump Roast: The Houndour pack does this to Team Rocket while the twerps take their sick packmate to a Pokémon Center.
