The battle with Nihilego to free Lusamine continues, but it's clear it's going to take some serious firepower to win. Does Pikachu have something up his sleeve?
This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- Beware the Nice Ones: If previous episodes didn't cement it, this episode shows that Pikachu can unleash all of the shit on an enemy when he decides to. In this situation, he decides too. It is glorious.
- Calling the Old Woman Out: After her brother did so a few episodes ago, Lillie has her turn at calling out Lusamine. Played with, as this was partially to bring Lusamine to her senses.
- Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Nihilego didn't seem to respond kindly to Lillie's calling out, as it only gotten a further hold over Lusamine.
- Grew a Spine: Lillie finally told her mother how she feels for treating her like a baby and for her behavior while under Nihilego's control.
- "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Lillie was able to reach out to Lusamine when she called her out for her childish behavior but told her how strong she was for keeping up with her Ultra Beast research for so long. Although she heard Lillie's voice, the Ultra Beast refused to let Lusamine go.
- New Powers as the Plot Demands: The 10,000,000-Volt Thunderbolt! Its Z-Crystal appears fleetingly, and disappears as soon as the move is finished.
- The Power of Love: Hearing Lillie calling out to her, Lusamine remembers the love she has for her and Gladion.
- Reflexive Response: In the Japanese Stinger, Rowlet once again is attracted to Steenee's Sweet Scent, earning a high kick from Steenee, which sends Rowlet into his blazing "Rowlaunch" attack he used in the climax.
- Spared by the Adaptation: In the original games, Lusamine was rendered catatonic by Nihilego's possession. Here, she recovers fairly quickly.
