Beginning their journey to Cloudsdale City, the group treks through the desert for another time, but Doc develops an illness that requires the others to find a cure for him.
- The Bus Came Back: Lightning returns for the first time since the end of the Camp Everfree arc, though he's merely trying to train his own Pokémon and doesn't serve as an antagonist outside of being a jerk again.
- Cliffhanger: The chapter ends with Doc getting cured, but still fatigued and unable to prepare the group's meals while he's exhausted. More pressingly, the Douburrow follows them back to their camp and digs a tunnel beneath them, causing the group to fall through just as the chapter ends.
- Sand Worm: The Douburrow encountered in this chapter is bigger than any seen previously and it moves by burrowing into the ground.
- Sick Episode: The crux of the chapter is based around Doc developing a sickness, forcing the others to find a native treatment since Appaloosa is too far away to get help.
- Tempting Fate: When Flash and Spike find the flower needed to treat Doc, the former offhandedly comments that this has been one of their easiest adventures so far. A mere second later, a Douburrow shows up and attacks them.
