Recap / Paradoxus Capitulo 05

Go To

Date: Sureth 15th, year 898 of the dynasty.

Nineteen years later, a few hours after the prologue's events, Altalune reflects on various topics —why she's been hiding on Earth for years and the fact she's a fairy of frost— while she enjoys her last moments of peace before she embarks on her mission. Her sister does the same on the other side of the planet, delivering one final concert with her rock band. In different instances, they've both visited their grandparents (adoptive and biological) as well as other loved ones to say goodbye. They reunite with their mission teammates (Stacy, Gilliam Eyten, and Zoe Diem) at the Tyrannus Division's headquarters.

Tropes:

  • Decoy Protagonist: The last two chapters make it seem as if Bloom is The Protagonist or, at least, the first main character until her daughter Altalune takes over the role. Especially as Bloom is introduced investigating a string of attacks by the Burning Legion on Eraklyon; her magical bonding with Galadwen not helping matters either. Alas, it's her daughters whom the plot revolves around; in this chapter, we go back to Altalune's P.O.V. and it's revealed that the main plot unravels from her and her sister's travel back in time.
  • Epigraph: It aptly describes the Oðrsson sisters' The Determinator attitude toward the Legion's invasion and their mother's demise. They are unwilling to resign to their and the dimension's doomed fates without their most powerful guardian fairies; they also rebel at the thought of their destroyed family. It also shows that, given how much they've lost and been through, the sisters would rather die with a bang while trying to improve their situation than just accept it all quietly.
Resignarse y aceptar, son sinónimos de morir, en el sistema de vida actual... y si la muerte espera, la entrada al reino de los muertos, debe ser gloriosa.Translation
  • How We Got Here: Subverted. The previous chapters of the fic have centered around slowly narrating who the corpses in Altalune's nightmare belong to and why she's so hung up on that plan of hers to fix everything. Here, the narration suddenly cuts back to her point of view—in as much as can be said for a narrator who briefly jumps to other characters' perspectives from time to time—while there are still many unanswered questions. Furthermore, her motivations for traveling back in time are revealed by her musings here as opposed to during the flashback.
  • Legacy Team: As Altalune rants, the Vergrdrassil sub-division was, in her opinion, a piss-poor attempt at invoking this with the daughters of the Winx; seeing that the girls have near identical magical affinities as their mothers. Most of them also fit in similar roles as their mothers —The Leader Bloom's eldest daughter Altalune is the commanding officer of the time-traveling team (although her other daughter is The Lancer, the role you'd expect Stella's kid to assume), both Tecna and her only daughter Zoe are the The Smart Girl, Gilliam shares The Heart attributes with her mother Flora, and Rosalie is as much the Tagalong Kid as her mother used to be. Contrary to Altalune's harsh judgment, they are not half bad at it, if only because they are divided into distinct three-woman units— tracking, intel-gathering, spying/stealth, and attack; which makes it a downplayed case.
