Chen has failed to bring the return of the Serpentine war, but Clouse reveals that there is another way: his daughter's abilities to absorb the power of every fighter she comes across.
This episode provides examples of:
- Body Horror: The Anacondrai transformation seems to be painful.
- Dragged Off to Hell: Clouse's fate in this episode, being banished to the Cursed Realm by Garmadon.
- Foreshadowing: Clouse opens a portal to the Cursed Realm to defeat Garmadon once and for all. Garmadon enters the Cursed Realm of his own free will in the finale.
- Face Your Fears: This turns out to be the catalyst for summoning an Elemental Dragon.
- Forced Transformation: Even though they've sided with the Ninja, Garmadon and Skylor are still transformed into Anacondrai by the spell because of their tattoos.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: Clouse is sucked into his own portal through a risky move on Garmadon's part.
- Lampshade Hanging: Jay lampshades Garmadon's constant shapeshifting (his four arms, his Overlord-possessed dragon form, and finally his new Anacondrai form) by telling him to pick a body and stick with it.
- Meaningful Echo: Chen's catchphrase "Only one can remain", is utilized in a more hopeful tone as the Elemental Masters unlock their Elemental Dragons and fly towards Ninjago to stop Chen.Kai: Chen brought us to the tournament so that only one can remain. Well, we are one!
- Morphic Resonance: Chen, Skylor, and Garmadon retain human-like heads instead of snake-like heads when transformed into Anacondrai, perhaps because their tattoos are on their backs while the other Anacondrai Cultists' (who all have snake-like heads) have tattoos on their heads.
- The Power of Love: Kai accepting Skylor regardless of her new Anacondrai form allows him to unlock his Elemental Dragon.
- The Stinger: Over the credits, it's revealed that Jacob, Elemental Master of Sound, is still alive—he was forced to feed Clouse's snake, not get fed to it. He's still stuck on the island while everyone else flies back to mainland Ninjago (though it's confirmed that they eventually went back for him offscreen).
- You Can't Thwart Stage One: Chen wins Round One, turning everyone bearing his mark into an Anacondrai.
