This episode provides examples of:

  • Breather Episode: Compared to the rest of the Green Ninja arc, which focuses on either Lloyd trying to come to terms with the weight of his destiny in defeating his father or eventually having to fight off an army made of stone created by an Eldritch Abomination that predates even the Serpentine by thousands, if not, tens of thousands of years, this episode is just about the main cast at the time having some good old racing and the only immediate thing at stake is the dojo the Ninja were living in being demolished if they can't make enough money.
  • The Bus Came Back: Many past one-shot villains and other characters return in this episode.
  • Saving the Orphanage: The ninja have to win the race to pay the rent for Dareth's dojo so it does not get demolished.
  • Significant Anagram: The company that tries to take down Darreth's dojo and sends a wrecking ball into it at the start of the episode? Darnagom Enterprises. It doesn't take long for the Ninja (Minus Jay) to pick up that the demolition crew is Garmadon's doing.
  • Slow and Steady Wins the Race: Basically this with a prize of $5000 which the ninja need to win to help to pay Dareth's rent—but since there are no rules in the race where there's bound to be cheating in the competition. Metaphorically, the ninja are the "tortoise" since they don't perform so well at the beginning of the race and Lloyd, another ninja who entered separately to improve chances of winning, was disqualified in the middle of the race. Garmadon and his mooks are the "hare" metaphorically, "cheating" to try to win for himself. The ninja and Garmadon cross the finish line at the same exact time, but the ninja actually win due to a vehicle accessory that was added on by Jay on the hood, with no rules against it.
  • Villainous Rescue: Skales shows up to save Garmadon from being arrested.
