- Adopted into Royalty: Prince Benthomaar doesn't resemble his father or brother at all, which Kalmaar isn't particularly happy about. Not that Benthomaar acknowledges it.
- The Evil Prince: Kalmaar is attempting to awaken Wojira, whom his ancestors, working with the First Spinjitzu Master and other early inhabitants of Ninjago, had long ago defeated. When his father asks him if he sunk the human ship, he denies it.
- The Good King: In contrast to his son, King Trimaar is kind, as well as being tolerant of the surface-dwellers.
