After getting shot, Eddie fights for his life. With a sniper targeting members of the LAFD, extra precautions must be taken in order for the 118 to continue to do their jobs. After realising that everything isn’t right, Maddie makes a hard life changing decision. After recovering from his car crash, Albert decides to sign up for the LAFD.
Continuing from the previous episode, Eddie has just been shot by a sniper that continues to fire at Engine 133 and Buck until they can get Eddie in the engine and rush him to the hospital, leaving the burning Battalion Chief SUV behind. Athena and Bobby are still arguing with each other until they get the call about Eddie, then forget everything when they learn one of Bobby's men is critically wounded. Athena joins the LAPD investigation, and soon word comes of a female firefighter being sniped responding to an auto accident.
Because of the female firefighter and Eddie being shot by a sniper at both incidents they each responded to respectively, LAPD issues more officers to patrols and SWAT to protect LAFD on responses, along with issuing bulletproof vests to LAFD personnel to protect them out in the field. This gives Bobby and Athena some relief when Bobby comes home that night safe and the two make up for their earlier quarrel in thinking one or the other was betraying their marriage.
Buck is taking care of Christopher while Eddie is recovering from his gunshot wound, but is worried about his mental state regarding Eddie's situation.
The 118 is called to a construction site where a worker is trapped on the crane high in the air, joined by LAPD to protect them from the sniper. Despite SWAT and the LAPD Air Unit still some time out, Buck risks his own life to climb up to reach the guy and save him, knowing full well he's putting himself at risk from being sniped since any high rise around there could be a perfect sniper's nest. In the end, Buck succeeds, and the worker is rescued to be taken to the hospital, with his arm assured to be saved. Back at the station, Bobby accepts Buck for his behavior since his actions come from his heart, but then scolds him for putting himself at risk, but Buck counters that he refuses to let Bobby or anyone else from the 118 be put at risk while he stands by and does nothing like what happened to Eddie. Even Taylor reprimands him for how he could have been killed because of his heroic act.
Afterwards, Buck is called to the hospital, where Eddie has recovered and is fully conscious, even taking a chance to show Christopher he's alright as well. At Athena's precinct, the Deputy Chief is waiting for her to reveal that the sniper's ammo came from the LAPD themselves as it is the same caliber used by their sniper rifles.
LAPD SWAT raids the home where the ammo came from and arrests the owner, a former member of the SWAT unit and their marksman division, who they believe is the one who shot Eddie and the female firefighter. Sue speaks with Maddie later about it at the 911 dispatch center, and convinces her to talk to Chimney, whether she wants to or not. As for the sniper, Athena interrogates him about the ammo and rifle, and he explains that they are looking for someone who hates firefighters.
A 911 call comes in from a man trapped in building fire, and at the same time, Athena and the detective investigating the shootings figure out it must be someone else. At the fire scene, Bobby and the others are looking for the victim, when Bobby gets word that the LAFD need to evacuate the building on LAPD authority as the gunman could be luring them into a trap. Spotting a body, Bobby goes to check, but finds it is a mannequin, and realizes he's been lured into a trap, before the sniper ambushes him and fires a pistol round at Bobby, wounding and incapacitating him, leaving him at the gunman's mercy.
LAPD arrive, and reveal that the victim is the sniper, and he wants Revenge for being kicked off the force. Chimney asserts command over the LAPD Deputy Chief, and Athena decides to go in to save her husband. Suiting up in LAFD turnout gear, Athena heads in to save Bobby, while the gunman refuses to let Bobby go and makes it clear he'll take as many of them with him as needed to get his vengeance. As the gunman reveals how he got kicked off the force and wants vengeance for all of them, Athena gets closer, and the SWAT marksmen take aim. Suddenly, Athena appears through the flames, and before the gunman can fire on her, she fires first and fatally wounds him. He drops dead, and after she kicks his pistol away from him in case he's still alive so he can't get to it, she checks on Bobby and radios for assistance, reporting suspect down and Captain Nash needs medical aid.
Bobby comes to at Cedars-Sinai with Athena by his side, and learns that the gunman is KIA thanks to Athena. Bobby is grateful to her coming to his aid. Buck reunites with Taylor, who is relieved he's okay, and Chimney returns home to learn that Maddie resigned from being a dispatcher, but promises to get her help. Hen and Karen are having a picnic with their kids and mother, and everything is going well. Eddie is being discharged, but he and Buck exchange some words regarding how many close deaths Eddie has been through, and he decided to visit his attorney to modify his will, to ensure that Buck would take care of Christopher as legal guardian if anything happens to Eddie.
The episode ends as Chimney's brother is officially made a new member of the LAFD.
