Tropes:

  • Contrived Coincidence: Discussed by Murdoch and Brackenreid after the killer is identified.
Murdoch: He killed one of the officers [who desecrated the tomb of his leader.] He escaped through French North Africa, boarded a merchant ship, landed here in Toronto where he took up a job as a barman.
Brackenreid: And a year later another toffy-nosed Redcoat comes waltzing through his door, bragging about how he's turned his Messiah's skull into an inkpot. What are the odds on that?
Murdoch: I suppose remote enough that he considered it a calling from God that his work was unfinished.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: The killer is a barman with two words of dialogue and twenty seconds of screentime before The Reveal.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: The premise of the episode is a young Winston Churchill wakes up in a room with his buddy stabbed to death. To prove Churchill's innocence, Murdoch must help him retrace the steps of last night's drunken misadventure.
