Recap / Monkie Kid S2 E4 Sweet'n Sour

Go To

Pigsy and MK receive a challenge from a rival food competitor, Speedy Panda, to determine which restaurant reigns supreme - the traditional home-cooked meals made with love from Pigsy’s Noodles, or cheap instant convenience?

Tropes:

  • Appeal to Tradition: This is Pigsy's view on what makes his food truly good - home cooked, traditional family recipes that are made with heart, which MK comes to agree with and ultimately wins over convenience.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When Tang tries Pigsy’s food during the competition, he coolly says there’s something he’s been wanting to say to him for a long time, leading both Pigsy and the audience to think he’s going to tear not him… But then he smiles and happily declares Pigsy’s food is the best and there’s never been any doubt.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: This episode probably has the most meta humor out of the entire show so far.
Announcer: Our first judge, apparent fan-favorite Mr Tang!
Princess Iron Fan: I knew I shouldn’t have come back this season.
Demon Accountant: (Interrupting as both teams were about to fight) Hang on, we ain't got the budget for this!
  • Cooking Show: Food Wars is framed as this, being filmed on live tv with Pigsy and MK going up against Jin and Yin in a food-based competition to determine which restaurant is superior.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Jin and Yin open up a chain of convenience food stores purely to try and run Pigsy’s Noodles out of business as part of a scheme to destroy MK.
  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: Jin and Yin end up bankrupting their own business by spending all their profits on their panda mech, earning them the fury of the drivers they’re now unable to pay.
  • Undying Loyalty: MK and Tang show that even when they don’t have to, they feel this towards Pigsy and his restaurant.
Tang: I was never gonna vote against you, old friend!
